Dave grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania and loved the out of doors. As a child, he would often lay in bed at night looking out the window of the old farm house at the top of a Norway Spruce and would imagine some sort of adventure in the wilderness. He also enjoyed drawing natural subjects and was intrigued with the animal and plant life he encounter in the fields and woods. For this reason, he enjoys painting landscapes and wildlife along with illustrating natural science subjects. Dave has also been involved in illustrating childrens books, text books, magazine illustration and portrait painting. After graduating from high school, Dave studied art & design for 4 years at both The Studio School of Art & Design and The School of Art & Design in Philadelphia. Over the years Dave has won various awards including a Graphic Design award from Scott Paper Company and a Best of Show for an oil painting of the Stewiacke Valley in Nova Scotia. Dave won the M. Graham & Company award in 2007 at the South Carolina Watermedia Society's traveling exhibition for the painting Always Faithful. He has also been invited to exhibit in both national and international illustration exhibitions with the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and the Focus on Nature exhibit at the New York State Museum. Dave also had an illustration accepted into the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, Va. Dave works in the traditional mediums of acrylic, oil, pastel, pen and ink and also computer illustration using Photoshop and Illustrator.
