Dave grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania and loved the out of doors. As a child, he would often lay in bed at night looking out the window of the old farm house at the top of a Norway Spruce and would imagine some sort of adventure in the wilderness. He also enjoyed drawing natural subjects and was intrigued with the animal and plant life he encounter in the fields and woods. For this reason, natural science illustration is one of his favorite subjects to paint along with landscapes.

After serving in the Marine Corps, Dave opened an art & design studio and began working on everything from custom sign and screen printing to illustration work. He is one of the few "Letterheads" still around who can use a lettering quill. His first commission was to do 28 pen & ink drawings of the covered bridges in Columbia County, Pa. for the 1976 Bicentennial. 8X10 prints are still available. With over 40 years of motorcycling, he also enjoys striping a bike or painting a mural on a gas tank. And of course there is the illustration and design work which has included science and medical illustration, children's book illustration, historical illustration and portrait work to designs for everything from business cards to T-shirts. Dave works in the traditional mediums of acrylic, oil, pen & ink, pastel and airbrush as well as computer illustration using Photoshop and Illustrator.
